Charley Pride "You Almost Slipped My Mind" Single Of The Day

1980 top ten hit for Charley Pride "You Almost Slipped My Mind"Greetings from Asheville, where good music is always on the turntable.  Today’s Single Of The Day is one of sixty Country 40 singles that Charley Pride enjoyed between 1966 and 1990.  Out of those releases, fifty-two became top ten hits, while twenty-nine made it all the way to the number one position.  Today’s featured forty-five didn’t quite hit number one, but it came close.

“You Almost Slipped My Mind” was Charley’s third and final single release of 1980.  The ballad debuted on the Country 40 in early October, climbing as high as number four on the charts.  With that peak, it became Charley’s first single since 1975′s “I Ain’t All Bad” to miss the top three.  While not as well remembered, now, as many of Charley’s biggest hits, it’s still a very good record that is worthy of some spins, on occasion.

Your thoughts?

Saving vinyl, one record at a time.
