The World Famous Ultimate Twang Classic Country Christmas Show

Charley Pride Christmas In My HometownGreetings from Asheville, where a white Christmas may not be a reality, this year, but the holiday spirit is as strong as ever.  It’s a special edition of the World Famous Ultimate Twang, today, as we have our first-ever Classic Country Christmas. Today, I’ve dug out the holiday hits, the Christmas classics, and the sounds of the season, all done by the great legends of country. There will be classics, of course, the hits from Gene Autry, Bobby Helms, Eddy Arnold, Alabama, and Brenda Lee, to name a few. Traditional hymns, songs, and carols from the likes of Jo Dee Messina, Elvis, Marty Robbins, and Martina McBride, among others. And, those classic country Christmas favorites from the likes of Jim Reeves, and Grandpa Jones.

Here’s what I recommend; doing something Christmasy while listening; perhaps present wrapping or knocking back some eggnog.

So, if you’ve never partaken in The World Famous Ultimate Twang, before, you’re saying, “How can I join the fun?”  It’s simple; simply click on Asheville Free Media, and it will take you to their home page.  Once there, simply go to the upper right side, where you’ll see a red bar saying, “Listen live.”  Simply click on the hi-fi (preferred) or lo-fi, to hear it through Windows Media, ITunes, or Media Monkey.   If you click on the gray play button, you can listen directly from the site.  And, if you can’t be with us during the live event, then make sure you visit the Ultimate Twang page at Asheville Free Media’s site, starting tomorrow, where you can hear the archived version, anytime, over the following week.

The holiday fun kicks off at 4p, Eastern, today!

It's Almost Time For The Twang! Can You Handle It?

The best time of the week is upon us, once again. It's the time when we twang things up with some golden nuggets from the past. As always, nearly all of the eras are represented, as we spin the gold from the greatest names, as well as a few forgotten ones. And who's in this week's lineup? How about this for an all-star review.... Porter Wagoner Buck Owens Charley Pride Tammy Wynette The Carter Family Anne Murray Blake Shelton Charlie Rich Conway & Loretta John Michael Montgomery Johnny Cash Ronnie Milsap David Houston Alabama Eddy Arnold Donna Fargo And that merely scratches the surface! As always, the UT Time Machine is oiled up and ready to roll, heading back to this week in 1985, 1970, and 2000. And as always, we'll throw in a little inspirational sounds, as well, this week from Burl Ives, Glen Campbell, & The Forester Sisters. The elections are over, and it's time to reunite everyone with some awesome sounds from the glorious past of country music.

To listen to the program, simply click on the name Asheville Free Media.  Once you are there, just go to the upper right side of the site, and click on listen live.  Clicking on hi-fi or lo-fi in the red bar, will enable you to listen through ITunes, Windows Media, Media Monkey, etc.  Or, click on the gray play button to listen directly off the site.

Barbara Mandrell "Just For The Record" Classic Album Review

Greetings from Asheville, where good music is always around.  Today's Classic Album Review is a 1979 release from one of the hottest acts of the that era.  Though Barbara Mandrell had been active on the charts since the early 1970's, it wasn't until the end of the decade, when she really hit her stride. Here's The Latest Happenings On The Ultimate Twang Blog For September, 2012

Greetings from beautiful Asheville.  Here's the latest from the World Famous Ultimate Twang blog. Since our last post, here, several more albums have been added to our Classic Album Review series. The latest is a look back at Eddy Arnold's 1968 release, The Everlovin' World Of Eddy Arnold, his last #1 LP.  Is it good?  Come over to find out.  Scrolling down to the next page, you'll see our look back at a 1958 Ferlin Husky release, Sittin' On A Rainbow.  It's an album of pop standards, performed in a swinging pop style, but with Ferlin at the mike.  Mismatch or nice surprise? And we've also checked out the 1990 Desert Rose Band release, Pages Of Life.

In addition, make sure you check out the Singles Of The Day.  The most recent being Connie Smith's 1973 top ten, "Ain't Love A Good Thing".  This was her first top ten hit after joining the Columbia roster.

And don't forget to check out the World Famous Ultimate Twang Radio Show, heard weekly, worldwide on the Asheville Free Media site.  The live version airs every Thursday, beginning at 4p, Eastern, while the archived version can be heard, anytime, by simply visiting the Ultimate Twang page on the Asheville Free Media site.  Just scroll down to stream link and click listen for the higher bitrate version that plays through Windows Media, Media Monkey, I Tunes, etc.   You can also scroll further down for a slightly lower rate (but still good quality).

Make sure you visit the World Famous Ultimate Twang blog and listen to the Ultimate Twang Radio Show on Asheville Free Media for your classic country music fix.
